Galaxy Mistletoe Kisses

My parents bought some of these to offer as small prizes for a party over the New Year. The prominent name on the packaging is Mistletoe Kisses and there's even a picture of some mistletoe above the title.

Looking at the ingredients though these contain no mistletoe. I'm thinking of contacting Trading Standards, after all if they can go after Welsh Dragon Sausages and Hedgehog flavoured crisps this should be right up their street.

Yeah, I saw those too — WTF?

If this isn't one of the most stupid product names ever, I'm not sure what is.

(OTOH, Lynx doesn't contain any felis lynx. And nobody has a problem with that. What else do you name such a product?)

Oh I don't mind the name, contextually it's fine, but can it be said to be misleading?

I wouldn't link Lynx the product with lynx the animal, in the same way I don't expect Jaguar cars to come with jaguar-skin seats.

However if you name a confection after a plant/berry... well with the apparent standards of food-knowledge in this country I could almost expect some child to try eating mistletoe on the grounds that 'they might taste like the chocolate of the same name'.

Remind me: Isn't Mistletoe lethally toxic?

(I still find it amusing that people use sprigs of a parasitic plant to invite people for a snog. Much like the way it's popular to cut off a plant's reproductive organs and put them in a vase when you like somebody…)

In some case it is indeed poisonous.

Reminds me of something I read somewhere on the giving of flowers - "Like these flowers my love for you will wither and die in a week" :-P
