The Wyre Forest Traveller site debacle Part 3
There seems to be mutterings over the cherry-picking of sites apparently favouring the dominant Conservative council members. To which end I present the five short-listed sites and the ten second-tier sites along with their internal designations and ward locations.
Short-list:
CLO0001 - Yard south of A456 - Clows Top - Rock
FAIR0001 - Land off Lowe Lane - Fairfield - Wolverley
STO0006 - Land off Wilden Top Road - Wilden - Mitton
STO0019 - The Gables Yard - Stourport-on-Severn - Mitton
UUBE - Open land north of Sutton Park Rise - Kidderminster. - Sutton Park
Second-tier sites:
BEW0001 - Land north of Habberley Road - Bewdley - Wribbenhall
BEW0002 - Site at Stourport Road - Bewdley - Wribbenhall
BLA0001 - Former Blakedown Nurseries - Blakedown - Blakedown & Chaddesley
COOK0002 - Land at Lawnswood - Cookley - Cookley
GJAL - Former school site - Kidderminster - Wolverley
KID0011 - Lea Castle hospital site - Kidderminster - Cookley
STO0004 - Land adjacent Nunn's Corner - Stourport-on-Severn - Mitton
STO0018 - Saiwen - Stourport - Mitton
STON0001 - Former depot - Stone - Blakedown & Chaddesley
WR104458 - Redundant farm, St John's Road - Stourport-on-Severn - Lickhill
Selected sites:
BEW0002 - Wribbenhall - Conservative (x2)
GJAL - Wolverley - Conservative (x1)
KID0011 - Cookley - Labour (x1)
STO0004 & STO0018 & STO0019 - Mitton - Conservative (x3)
WR104458 - Lickhill - Independent Health (x3)
As can be seen the selected sites sites 'inconvenience' 6 Conservative councillors (more if we count Mitton three times) and only 4 non-Conservative councillors.
Of the four short-listed that weren't selected the wards and Party distribution is as follows:
CLO0001 - Rock - Conservative (x1)
FAIR0001 - Wolverley - Conservative (x1)
STO0006 - Mitton - Conservative (x3)
UUBE - Sutton Park - Conservative (x3)
of the second-tier not selected:
BEW0001 - Wribbenhall - Conservative (x2)
BLA0001 & STON0001 - Blakedown & Chaddesley - Conservative (x2)
COOK0002 - Cookley - Labour (x1)
So add up all the councillors that had potential sites in their wards counting them only once per area and next to the number of sites.
Short-list:
Conservatives: 8 with 5 sites
Second-tier sites:
Conservatives: 8 with 7 sites
Labour: 1 with 2 sites
ICHC: 3 with 1 site.
All sites:
Conservatives: 12 with 12 sites
Labour: 1 with 2 sites
ICHC: 3 with 1 site
Selected sites:
Conservatives: 6 with 5 sites
Labour: 1 with 1 sites
ICHC: 3 with 1 site
If these sites were being drawn from a hat they'd be 7 Conservative sites listed, but it's not random they've been selected. What is interesting is that of the Conservative dominated short-list only one was selected and of the three non-Conservative second-tier sites two found themselves on the selection list.
