Observations

Bewdley Bridge is closed according to Central News due to "Fears of flooding at Beales Corner". Bit of a catch 22 complaints because they've closed it when it's not flooded, complaints if they don't close it and floods happen.

Anyway the river is up and has been since Monday. It hasn't burst its banks, but the putting green is once again flooded an occurrence that seems to be happening at least once a year now. Oh and Engine Basin has overflowed into the carpark since at least Friday when the procession started. Now if only someone had suggested that a foot high wall be built along the edge so this wouldn't happen...

[Additional - the pool of water fills the car-park, now as this is a private pay car-park you'd think they'd want to stop this from happening]

Heh. The other day I saw on the news what happened to the improbably-named Cockermouth when the river bust its banks.

Except that the river did not “burst its banks”. Rather, it totally fricken disregarded its banks and submerged the entire town!

Also amusing were the remarks that this was “a once in a thousand years event”… Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not in fact the exact same thing that happened to Boscastle just last year?? Doesn't sound very rare to me!

I had to gently chide Hugh over at the Shuttle for getting excited over two once in a thousand year events. The probabilities are linked, once one occurs the likelihood of another increases (or decreases depending).

To an extent the trouble is that once Bewdley puts its flood defences up the water that would in the past have naturally spread over the flood plain there, is channelled further down river creating a new flood plain hopefully not next to a new housing estate.
