Playstation Plus more details

It's nice to get more details to what's been said before, but it's important to note that this a new service that is supposedly being launched on the 29th of this month. So getting the fine details now is cutting things a little close.

So is it pretty much what I thought it was going to be? No. It's exactly what I thought it was going to be. The games on offer both full and trial are those that Sony pick and if you miss out on that month tough. Of the full game trials on offer for month 1 we get Shatter a PSN breakout clone; and Savage Moon a PSN tower defence game. For month 2 InFamous and Mushroom Wars a PSN RTS. So that's three PSN games and one 'proper' retail game that were all released last year. Yes we'll all be flocking to try those.

Of the freebie games, which as I've said are only free while you subscribe, for month 1 we get the two year old arcing game Wipeout HD, Fieldrunners a two year old tower defence mini, Age of Zombies a new top-down shooter mini and the PSOne classic Destruction Derby a racing/wreck'em driving game. In month 2 we see Zen Pinball whoo-hoo, Blast-off an Asteroids style mini, Alien Zombie Death a side-scrolling shooter, and the PSOne classic Medievil. In other words not exactly a meaty start.

But wait there's the discounted stuff too. LBP costumes, Fat Princess DLC, and Warhawk DLC none of which are any good unless you have the full games. There's also two full games on offer Super Stardust HD and Gravity Crash but only 20% off.

Interestingly in the second month there's 20% discounts on DLC for Zen Pinball and Wipeout HD, you know the games you might have just picked up for free as a subscriber. Do I detect a hint of joined-up thinking going on here? I think I do - gosh.

Of the true freebies you get a couple of Fat Princess avatars, a couple of Heavy Rain avatars, two Sony own dynamic themes and two non-dynamic themes one from LBP and one from Heavy Rain.

There does appear to be something new though called "Premium Game Element" which isn't clear if this is free as in the avatars or free as in the mini games. In either case there's some KillZone2 DLC and MotorStorm Pacific Rift DLC up for grabs... presuming you own either game.

So yeah £40 a year for not really that much so far.
